Purchasing music online in Malaysia

American Idol season 6 finally came to an end. Makes me wonder what to watch on my Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
I got hit by the American Idol craze. I thought Jordin’s final performance on the Idol song was fantastic and while watching the show, they mention that we can download the performances online.
So, here I am logging on to Fox’s official Idol page. Sure enough these songs were available. Full length Studio recording for download.
Okay, so along the season, I thought some of their cover songs were quite nice. Especially the the original beatboxing Blake with You Give Love A Bad Name.
They have a couple of MP3 bundles of Jordin’s and Blake’s performances for USD$3.99. The single tracks cost USD$0.99. I figured, hack, I should just purchase it.
I registered, add them into my shopping cart. Check out with my credit card details only to have a couple of my selection removed due to country restrictions.
Sigh….
Anyhow, I manage to purchase the Idol Song for some reason, and I am currently downloading it as I speak. USD$0.99. MP3 encoded in 320Kbps. I think it is DRM-less.
Here is the receipt of my purchase.

If you are like me, I use itunes to manage my music collection. I’ve been trying to register an account with the itunes music store without any success due to the fact that we are geographically not supported.
Carrie Underwood version of I’ll stand by you was brilliant. Damn the itunes store - I can’t seem to spend my USD$0.99 1.39 for it.
Trusty old bitorrent. Gives an additional reason why people still steal music. Gives an additional reason why the record label losses the couple of dollars from my pocket.

Oh, btw… not helping to as our brilliant “Best effort” ISP wouldn’t allow me to access itunes music store. Intermittently. Brilliant. Just brilliant.
ps. Completed my download. USD$0.99 well spent. Cheers!

Yeah, the music industry is against piracy but yet unsupportive of us purchasing it either. So meaning, they’re indirectly supporting piracy right?
