Fire up my google maps on my iPod after my bath. Type in kuta. The map loads. Hrmmm. Friend recommended german pork nuckles yesterday. I search pork and I search kuta. Mama german restaurant cme up. Jumped in the cab and headed there.

People in Bali are friendly. The cab driver is a father to three beautiful Balinese daughter. 20 17 and 16 of age.

I ordered pork nuckles. Potato pea soup and a large bintang draft. A bowl of peanuts just arrive. Yummy. I am hungry. Cold Bintang beer is just great this humid weather. *sip*

Wonder how the food gonna be. An Australian couple seated next to my table. A hong kong couple seated on my right. They enjoyed true meal. Could hear them. Makes me drool even.

I shall just wait for my pork nuckles and drink my beer.

Got back to hotel late. Calling for the magnificent 13 for dinner would be odd. They must be alreadydigging in by now. If not shopping.

Walked out to the town area found myself a restaurant. I ordered a seafood platter and it yet to come. I hope it is good. . Having a drunk as well. Traditional “arak” Bali lemon honey. I asked if it was strong. He said strong enough. What a wuzZ. Taste like honey lemon.

Still waiting for my seafood platter. They ran out of tuna which they usually serve. He said he’s replacing the tuna with 2 more prawns. Still sounds good …

Gotta have lobster, prawn, squid, clams….

Still waiting for my food. Just had a sip of traditional honey lemon arak. Still don’t think it is strong. The kitchen is next to me. I can see the cook prepping food for all of us in the restaurant.

Still waiting for my lobster. There are 4 Japanese seated next to my table. All dudes. Not very interesting. Looked like they had a round of bintang beer. Maybe that is stronger than my arak. They Re still very sober. They had clams. I know cos I see clam shell.

Food is here. Suck. Doesn’t look good. No clams. Guess I won’t have clam shells. Lobster looks pethatic.

I am hungry I have to eat.

The girls, salivaing my food. Ewwww, tsk… and I had to finish them all. Sigh. What a torture.

Ayer Itam’s Assam Laksa is huge. Myself and Devin took an adventurous drive from Penang Town over to Ayer Item from a trusty map we bought from SHELL station. Not the best map in the world, but we didn’t really get lost.

  

I’ve got Devin helping me to direct the traffic for me even. On the other note, it was election fever. Hence the banners.

When I say huge, I meant well known. – not really the place being big and comfy. Sights like this are very normal in Malaysia. Hawkers dining is quite a culture if you ask me. Kinda gives me the home feeling.

 
 It’s a small stall with some small aluminum top with metal legs table. You know you are in the north when you are sitting on these kind of table. I don’t remember KL having such setups. In Taiping, Ipoh…. yes.

  
 Two bowl of assam laksa! I’ll leave wikipedia to explain what it is for those who haven’t tasted such wonderful threat.  Assam Laksa is available everywhere in Malaysia, but not all of them are great. Heck, not all of them are served in these kind of china. The cockheaded bowl gives original feel to what assam laksa should be.  

 
 It wasn’t expensive comes KL standard. I think we paid RM 2.50 per bowl. Considering we paid like RM 8.00 for Char Kuey Teow earlier that day.

 Not many streets are like this in KL anymore. Once upon a time, maybe. This is Penang. A panoramic photograph of Penang’s Ayer Itam. A photograph which was taken just right outside our assam laksa shop. 

And this is our assam laksa story…  

I’ve got to know the place from stalking malaysia blogs. Apparently after our little snack, we weren’t far away from the Coconut King.

The whole place is stacked with coconut. So much that if it ever falls on you at the same time, you’ll die. We ordered a couple. We had a brief chat with the person who ran the place – all gear up for the liverpool chelsea match that week.

We were so friendly, they decided to give us their Parang (Knife), to demostrate some leet coconut opening skills.

I must say that the parang was very very sharp.

This my friend, you can get it from 33, Jalan Nagor. Somewhere in Penang. I am not a big fan of cinnamon stuff. But my mates were excited enough to buy 2 loafs of these to be taken to the apartment.

Road trips are fun. Especially with the nice group of people. Despite the heartache felt from the lost of my 4 tires,we headed to Penang nevertheless.

There were 6 of us in the this car, while another 4 more in the tailing Volvo right behind us.

Penang was our destination simply because of 1 reason. 1 reason that rules it all.

And so, the journey continues………

You see, it was a long night out together. The first stop was dinner at Low Yat. We straight went off to Jalan Alor for chicken wing. What worth blogging was not the chicken wing , but our little trip to Ole Cafe at Changkat Bukit Bintang.

There are few things that can make an instructor high. Food is clearly one of it. After stuffing up the belly with whole load of bowl of something something, and chicken wing, Ole cafe simply gave us a reason for us to go high & crazy.

Besides their Irish Coffee, Ole cafe is quite a lay back place for us to chill out. Board games aplenty. Pictionary was John’s pick of the night.

The game was simple, straight forward and fun. The players made it feet thomping, loud & noisy, crazy game. So the excited YO! til stomping the floor. I bet some ceiling fell off from the floor we stood. We were in 2nd floor you see.

The game is about drawing, and describing certain words printed of the cards. Oh yes, we all drew…
